1 Squadron Australian Flying CorpsHistory of 1 Squadron AFC : The first complete Squadron of the Australian Flying Corps to become operational, the squadron fought their entire operational career in WWI in the Egyptian and Palestinian theatres. Originally equipped with obsolete BE aircraft, the Squadron was equipped with increasingly more efficient aircraft until they received the Bristol Fighter in 1918.
People of 1 Squadron Australian Flying CorpsAces of 1 Squadron AFC : Over their three year operational career the Squadron produced 15 aces and 31 other aircrew who were accredited with victories. Considering the theatre at any one time never had greater than 100 German aircraft, this is quite an achievement. The leading ace of the squadron, and the Palestinian theatre was Captain Ross "Hadji" Smith. Roll Of Honour for 1 Squadron AFC : During the squadrons overseas service, the squadron lost 31 personnel of all ranks. This included losses to combat and illness.
