Leasing issues for luxury car makers, "Leases account for 60% of BMW's sales in the U.S. compared to just 20% of sales in the industry as a whole." Leasing is predicated on the lease covering the initial depreciation of the car but it relies on their being high demand for the post-lease used cars. This is not necessarily true in the current high fuel costs, tighter credit and probably recessional economy. BMW is probably facing similar issues to Chrysler. (reply)
