Tony Abbot writes
, "Rudd's real test won't be how he handles consorting allegations. It will be explaining how it's possible to tear up workplace agreements and halve greenhouse gas emissions without sabotaging the economy." I am with Al Gore on this one, solving global warming is an opportunity to grow an economy.

dlatimer : Why businesses are ahead of govt: This is exactly correct.
This is why businesses are so interested in providing solutions. It is an opportunity. The next generation of energy efficient equipment is the next generation of products and new enterprises.
I am supportive and motivated by environmental issues but this the problem with the Green politics is they see business as the enemy. In fact they are the solution to the problem.
Tony Abbot makes
the claim in a Sydney Morning Herald op-ed
that the republic movement is characterised by;
"the studied indifference to our British heritage"
. South Sea Republic is the most prominent of Australian Republican websites, so it is probably a good judge to determine if that statement is true.

avocadia : It is code:
At the risk of sounding paranoid and like a conspiracy-buff, \"British Heritage\" strikes me as code for anti-multiculturalism. It is all such bullshit anyway. I put it to you that Australia has barely the thinest of veneers of British Heritage. Just one example, those Australian values that John Howard loves to sprout, mateship, egalitarianism, fair-play and so on, are basically the antithesis of British social values. There was no egalitarianism or mateship in the class system. I think it is fair to say that a lot of Australia is defined by those characteristics Britain deemed undesirable - Chartism for example.
cam : The rhetoric of british heritage: is selling Australia short. We have been politically innovative. A nationalist government is using rhetoric and language which effectively hides and dampens Australian achievement. Too many contradictions. Suggests it is not sustainable.
